After a history of indecisive direction concerning LGBT rights, Walmart has decided to stop funding gay-friendly organizations after a meeting with Family Research Council’s President Tony Perkins.
Walmart has a sordid history with LGBT organizations. In 2010, after a former employee admitted he was gay to a Walmart supervisor, he was stripped of his responsibilities and alienated from his colleagues. In 2011, the corporation scored a 40 out of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. They were raised to a 60 out of 100 for their 2012 score after including a gender identity nondiscrimination policy at the end of 2011.
