Mary Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, married her long-time partner Heather Poe on Friday. The ceremony took place on the 20th anniversary of the couple’s first date.
“Very happy to announce that as of this morning, Heather and I are legally married (at least in DC), 20 years to the day after our first date,” Cheney announced to friends via Facebook.
Cheney, 43, is the younger of Dick Cheney’s two daughters. The former VP has long championed gay marriage, reportedly reaching out to Maryland’s GOP legislators in February to urge their support for a marriage equality bill in that state.
Cheney and Poe live in Virginia with their two children.
