Portia De Rossi is among those set to star in the “Mockingbird Lane,” a remake of the 1960s series “The Munsters.” De Rossi, the real-life spouse of Ellen DeGeneres, will play vampire wife Lily to Jerry O’Connell’s Frankenstein-like Herman in the possible mid-season replacement series. Rounding out the cast are Eddie Izzard as Grandpa and Mason Cook as the family’s son Eddie.
Show creator Bryan Fuller explained that the show was originally intended to debut last fall for NBC, but that delays were experienced due to the difficulties in casting actors who could “navigate the turns” and “handle the mouthfuls of dialogue” required to renew the campy family in the hour-long “dramedy” series.
De Rossi previously appeared in “Ally McBeal,” “Arrested Development” and “Nip/Tuck.”
