Chicago’s first ever transgender housing and counseling facility was opened to the community on Monday, July 15. The TransLife Project (TLP) was started by Chicago House and is meant to meet the needs of the transgender community through a comprehensive initiative.
Situated in the neighborhood of Edgewater, TransLife Center (TLC) opened its doors for those seeking basic life necessities—housing, meals, shower—as well as more comprehensive advice and guidance. The center is much more than just a housing solution; employment counseling, legal advice, and medical resources, as well as “drop-in” services are also available here, according to Chicago House’s CEO, Stan Sloan.
