Sarah Bush is the artistic director for the Sarah Bush Dance Project, a fierce San Francisco dance troupe performing and teaching Urban Contemporary & Hip Hop dance. She fuses her background in modern dance, hip hop, jazz, ballet, Afro-Caribbean and contact improv, resulting in high energy, highly accessible performances by her diverse company of dancers.

Sarah’s resume is as expansive as her repertoire, performing and choreographing in several MTV music videos, appearing as a two time featured guest on “The Tyra Banks Show,” dancing on cruise ships, stages and night clubs around the country and the world, choreographing for AXIS Dance Company, serving as a guest performer with Bill T. Jones, working as an NBA Golden State Warrior Girl and (since 2000) as a taiko-drumming warrior woman with Dance Brigade.

I took these photos of Sarah and her dance troupe in Berkeley, Calif., just down the street from The Beat where she teaches her dance classes. It was simply not possible to take a bad photo of this incredible woman—her body language oozed confidence that poured into every photograph.
