Martina Navratilova requires no introduction. She’s the legendary tennis player Billie Jean King once referred to as “the greatest singles, doubles and mixed doubles player who’s ever lived.” She’s a member of theLaureusWorldSportsAcademy, Health and Fitness Ambassador for the AARP and was recently a contestant on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”
My encounter with Martina a few years ago stemmed from an act of generosity on her part. She had donated a tennis clinic as a prize in an online auction fundraiser for NCLR, offering 10 lucky recipients the opportunity to learn from the best. Winners were doubly elated when they arrived at the session to find political humorist Kate Clinton serving as Martina’s ball girl.
Many other amazing women were in attendance, including NCLR executive director Kate Kendall.
