The charm of visiting the Cinque Terre is the opportunity to soak up a life that is so different from the one most of us live. Immerse yourself in Liguria, the coastal region of north-western Italy; historically rich with a unique wild beauty. Experience the scents of wild herbs along ancient coastal paths, drink wines produced from grapes growing on the terraced vineyards, taste the regions famous pesto, fugassa, raviola, fresh seafood and sumptuous desserts such as tirimasu. With plenty of walking, there’s no reason to feel guilty indulging in the tempting food.

Each of the five little towns that make up the Cinque Terre have their own charm. Four of them have steep slopes and steps with a maze of interconnected tiny streets heading down to the sea. The houses are rendered in ochres, blues and pinks and snuggled haphazardly almost on top of one another. Linking the Cinque Terre towns is an efficient train service with at least one train going in both directions every hour. The water taxis offer a different perspective. The walks give you the time to immerse yourself in the environment .

Explore one of the cultural epicentres of the Renaissance, with Women’s Holidays archaeologist Yvonne. On offer each day are easy day walks between the villages that make up the Cinque Terre – Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Choose the lower easy walks or go for the intermediate option. Swim from tiny beaches below picturesque villages perched on the cliffs and enjoy delicious Ligurian dishes at charming local restaurants.

We base ourselves in beautiful Levanto at the Northern tip of the Cinque Terre National Park. Here, there is a lovely beach, a great choice of cafes and restaurants and interesting historic buildings. We stay in comfortable apartments close to the beach. You can choose to; walk every day, go by train, water taxi or just chill out on the local beach and relax.
