Columbia Center blocks LGBT web content

The Columbia Center, Seattle’s tallest skyscraper, has reportedly blocked access to LGBT websites from the building’s free Wi-Fi. But the sites people are being barred from are not inappropriate or pornographic. In fact, among the list of forbidden sites is the It Gets Better Project, the teen suicide prevention organization.

Apparently, when you attempt to visit any “gay” website, the browser displays a message that reads “This is a known ‘sexual orientation’ web site which is blocked as specified by your web content filtering policy.” So far there is no explanation for the ban and the CAC group–the Columbia Center’s commercial real estate manager–has made no comment.
